Boil water notices in Kyle
A notice is a precaution when something may have contaminated a public water system. The city publishes the handling steps.
What the City of Kyle lists
- Drinking water
Bring tap water to a rolling boil for 2 minutes, let it cool and store it in a clean, covered container. Boil it even if it is filtered.
- Food and ice
Use boiled or bottled water for drinks, ice, washing produce and food preparation surfaces. Throw away ice made with tap water.
- Hands and teeth
Wash hands with tap water and soap. Use boiled or bottled water to brush teeth and avoid swallowing water while bathing.
- Dishes
Use a dishwasher sanitizing cycle, or a final rinse of at least 150 degrees Fahrenheit. By hand, soak rinsed dishes at least one minute in a bleach and water solution, then air dry.
- When it ends
Run cold taps for one minute, make and throw away three batches of ice, and run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.
Why it comes up here
A main break or a loss of pressure can trigger a notice, and a burst line in the street is a different problem from a burst line in your wall. The city or your own water provider will say when the water is safe again. WARN Central Texas sends alerts by phone or email.
Who issues a notice
Kyle has several water providers. The city's boil water page names the City of Kyle Public Water System, County Line Special Utility District and Goforth Special Utility District, and says to use the city's jurisdiction finder if you are unsure who serves you. When this page was checked on 5 November 2026, the city listed no current notice.
The city adds that when boiling is no longer needed, the City of Kyle or your water provider will tell you the water is safe to drink.
More handling steps from the city
- Filters
Boil tap water even if it is filtered. The city says most household filters do not remove bacteria or viruses.
- Babies
Use ready-to-use formula if you can. Mix powdered or concentrated formula with bottled water, or boiled water if you have none. Sterilize bottles and nipples.
- Bathing
Take care not to swallow water. A sponge bath for babies and young children lowers the chance.
- Laundry and pets
The city says laundry is safe to do as usual, and that pets can get some of the same illnesses, so give them boiled and cooled water.
- Hand sanitizer
If soap and water are not available, use a sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
Odd water after the notice
Sputtering means air in the lines. The city says to turn the tap on slowly and run it until it stops. Discolored water should run until it is clear, and the city says to wait on laundry until it does, washing a dark load first. A strong smell is probably chlorine, which systems may raise to disinfect pipes.
